A New Perspective and Renewed Hope: Venus Emerges from the Underworld

At the start of November, both Venus and Mercury turn retrograde in Scorpio. Diplomacy, agreements, relationships, financial matters, and communication mishaps are all in the spotlight, like dice thrown into the air. And then we watch them fall where they may. Wednesday November 4th features an auspicious Venus sextile to Jupiter, giving us the first indication of renewed hope. But since Venus is retrograde, not all is yet final - further details are yet to be emerged later on.

What is interesting, however, is that both Venus and Mercury turn direct on the same day, November 14, with Venus doing so after 40 days and nights of retrograde motion. Things begin to clear up, although some matters will take time to resolve. Since these two planets operate on very different cycles, it is very rare for them to turn direct on the same day. It is as though they eventually come to agree on the same thing, even though they approach it from entirely different starting points and motivations.

Venus has journeyed through the underworld and now returns renewed, in its own sign of Libra, feeling stronger and more hopeful. Relationships, agreements, and diplomacy work better now than they have in a long time. On the other hand, slowly unfolding power struggles and Mars (our will) preparing for an extended retrograde period suggest that the upcoming winter will not be entirely smooth sailing.

Although Mercury is still in Scorpio, along with Venus these two personal planets together wield considerable power, and little by little, new understanding—and hard won hope—emerges from situations we thought we had already lost. Nothing about the journey through Scorpio will be easy, but it brings us a completely new understanding of what simply no longer works and points us in a clear direction.

The best way to navigate these influences is to remain flexible and willingly go with the flow. Scorpio season is the perfect time to let go of things that no longer serve us. In doing so, we automatically make room for new things.

A reminder: Venus and Mercury were last retrograde in Scorpio in the autumn of 2018 (Venus was also retrograde in Scorpio in 2010 and 2002). What happened then, or what themes came to the surface? Similar issues may resurface now, or matters that began back then may finally come to an end.
