Mystical Confusion: Mercury Retrograde in Pisces

Full Moon Eclipse March 3rd and Mercury Retrograde Feb 26 - March 20, 2026

We are living through wild and uncertain times, as I already described in my 2026 astrology blog. First, the solar eclipse in 28 degrees of Aquarius (squaring the fixed star Algol) in mid-February lived up to its name and brought down royalty and other famous figures, and then Mars square Uranus on February 27 ultimately then sparked a war. Just when we thought we were getting out of the murky confusion of Pisces, the lunar eclipse on the Virgo–Pisces axis, together with Mars, came to finish off old matters in the sign of Pisces.

The Full Moon — and at the same time a lunar eclipse — in Virgo on March 3, 2026 was truly exhausting and draining for many, but also extremely unclear and chaotic, because its ruler Mercury was and is retrograde at the same time. Normally during a Full Moon, emotions and matters come to light, but a lunar eclipse prevents us from seeing their true state, or distorts the message. Some things may have become clearer to us, but we only have part of the information. We are not able to think logically right now, and the information we receive is not reliable. It’s best to avoid major decisions until April — or even until the end of May. As a hint, April and the start of May will be even more dramatic than the year has been so far.

Up is down and down is up now. It’s better to lean into the mysticism of Pisces rather than try to make practical decisions.

Instead, it’s advisable to simplify life by throwing away old belongings and even old habits. Let people and things go if they are meant to go. The South Node and the eclipse urge us to release what we desperately want to hold on to. The paradox of the lunar nodes (and thus solar and lunar eclipses) is that the more tightly we cling to a desired thing, person, or place, the more certainly the South Node will take it from us, or the North Node causes problems to the object of our obsession. But when we loosen our grip on what we want to keep, then we may actually receive it. Pretending doesn’t help — the gods cannot be fooled; the higher power knows when we have truly done the inner work and are ready to let go.

Although nothing makes much sense now, we are being shown strange symbols, hints, and signs whose meaning may open up later for those who observe with an open mind.

Mercury is in Pisces, where it also meets Mars, who tends to intensify situations. Jupiter, which rules Pisces, is still retrograde in Cancer and is not able to offer much help either, until after March 11 when it turns direct again. Misunderstandings and communication problems are now unusually emotional and exaggerated. Emotions are rising to the surface to be processed, but their truthfulness should not necessarily be trusted. Leave plenty of space in your schedule so you can process things calmly and handle current and upcoming delays peacefully.

It’s better to lean into the mysticism of Pisces rather than try to make practical decisions. Listen to your intuition and do something creative that does not require logic. Let emotions surface without taking them too factually. Up is down and down is up. We are already moving in a new world, but we have wandered off onto a side path in the forest where there are no signposts. In time we WILL find our way out, but before that it’s best to simply enjoy the magical gifts of the mystical forest. Even though nothing makes much sense now, we are being shown strange symbols, hints, and signs whose meaning may open up later for those who observe with an open mind.

Mercury Retrograde Survival Guide

Mercury rules thinking, the mind, communication, technology, travel, vehicles, and payment methods. On a spiritual level, Mercury is the only spirit capable of carrying messages from the upper world to the underworld and back again.

When Mercury is retrograde, it cannot function normally. Communication and communication devices break down, travel slows, misunderstandings, delays, and confusion arise. If you now try to handle detailed tasks requiring precision, be prepared to do them again.

  1. The most intense and challenging times are about five days before and after Mercury turns retrograde, and around the time it ends.

  2. During Mercury retrograde, it’s advisable not to sign contracts, buy a new (especially electronic) device, or make major changes in general. The situation will most likely change once Mercury turns direct again.

  3. It is typical during Mercury retrograde that old acquaintances or matters return for review to some extent. If a completely new acquaintance enters your life during this time, or for example an offer for a new job appears, it most likely will not last, or there is something hidden that will only be revealed later — when it is too late.

  4. The only exception to this rule is if the person is already known to you, or comes into your life through very familiar contacts, or if the opportunity comes from a former boss — in that case the connection or opportunity may even be fortunate and enduring. Mercury will then, in a sense, finalize or correct what was previously left unfinished.

  5. Traveling — and especially booking travel — is not recommended during Mercury retrograde. If you must travel, prepare yourself mentally and physically for delays. Allow plenty of extra time before and after the trip. Do not make your schedule too tight; leave plenty of room for possible delays.
