Unraveling the Enigma: A Brief Introduction to the Mysteries of Eclipses

Lunar Eclipse on Tue, Sept 17 and Solar Eclipse on Wed, Oct 2, 2024

We’ve entered eclipse season once again. The full moon and Lunar Eclipse in Pisces will occur on Tue, Sept 17, 2024, at 10:34 PM EST. The Solar Eclipse will be in Libra on Wed, Oct 2, 2024, at 2:49 PM EST.

Below is a reminder of how eclipse seasons affect human life. I've compiled my thoughts on eclipses from my previous blogs.

But first, a reminder that the upcoming weekend, September 14-15, is joyful and highly recommended, astrologically speaking, because Venus in Libra is connecting with Jupiter in Gemini. This is the perfect weekend for all kinds of events, networking, communication, and simply having fun.

Eclipses bring fateful beginnings and endings

Eclipses are like power outages when we temporarily lose the lights of the earth. When the lights return, things may look slightly different than before. Suddenly, we also begin to appreciate electricity and light, and only then do we realize how dependent we are on them.

Ancient astrologers considered eclipses challenging due to their unpredictability. Modern astrologers also recognize that eclipse times are particularly powerful and transformative. We feel internal or external pressure to push things forward, sometimes at any cost. The nature of eclipses is chaotic, reactive, and fateful, and we have less control over our lives than usual.

Both lunar and solar eclipses symbolize upcoming (and sometimes even events from a couple of weeks prior) dramatic turns. One of the special features of eclipses is that they start or end things and, most importantly, speed things up. For example, if you were thinking about moving or changing jobs within the next couple of years, the eclipse might symbolize a sudden, surprising change, such as finding or losing a job, forcing you to act immediately.

Eclipses are usually very fateful and show us that we are not as in control of our lives as we’d like to think. The best advice during eclipses, and especially between them, is not to react impulsively or believe the emotional waves that often come along with these events.

Eclipses wake us up from illusions. They accelerate things we weren’t ready for or didn’t feel prepared for – but the universe disagrees. You’re more ready than you think. Resisting the messages of the universe is futile – if we go with the flow willingly, we’ll eventually see that we’ve arrived at the place we needed to be.

A confusing time

The time between eclipses can be particularly chaotic and confusing. Messages might go to the wrong place, you may arrive late to meetings, misunderstandings, drama, and emotional outbursts could occur. The advice is to "walk lightly" and not start new things or take all the drama and misunderstandings too seriously. The time between eclipses is also famously a period when the veil between the living and the dead is thinnest. Eclipses open portals during which communication with the other side is easier than usual.

We may see things in a completely new light or now have a pretty good sense of what we truly want and need. During the eclipse, we will encounter situations, people, or events that reveal things, making the final decision clear. It’s a good time to consider decisions, as otherwise, the universe will make them for us. The nature of eclipses is precisely the pressure we feel to make changes.

On the other hand, eclipses clear out the old to make way for the new. If it’s been a challenging year, the upcoming eclipses will bring clarity. We are now much clearer about our needs, boundaries, and are ready to leave behind things that no longer serve us as they once did. Eclipses clarify how far we are willing to compromise or where we draw the line that we no longer wish to cross. Eclipses shape our identity.

Rash decisions

A word of warning: eclipses may lead us to make "rash" conclusions, and thus decisions with consequences. In general, it’s a good idea to wait for the emotional turmoil caused by eclipses to settle before reacting, though we may not always have that luxury, as events often come suddenly and require immediate response one way or another.

The power of a heartfelt request

A prayer or request made from the heart during an eclipse is much more powerful than usual. However, it is essential to keep your motivation, heart, and thoughts as pure as possible, because otherwise the negativity "baked into" the eclipse can later cause unpredictable twists, even six months or a year later.

Self-care Tips During Eclipses

The self-care tips for this time are rest, quiet reflection, drinking water, and avoiding drama as much as possible. Be kind to yourself and others. Avoid excessive news consumption and people who you know trigger you. Be aware that everyone is under pressure and try to be conscious of your own reactions. If you're one of the lucky ones not personally affected by this eclipse, be there to support others. Eclipses come and go. Deep peace within remains nonetheless.

A brief introduction to eclipses:

  1. Symbols of Eclipses

In astrology, eclipses can be studied through the north and south lunar nodes, which show in what life areas the eclipses happen. Eclipses aren’t planets, but points in the sky where they occur, caused by the shadow of the moon or Earth. Eclipses cause the light of the sun or moon to disappear from our view. The sun and moon symbolize our vitality and destiny. This is why eclipses were feared in ancient times. Life on Earth would be both symbolically and literally impossible without the sun or moon. Eclipses famously bring about significant beginnings and bring major things to dramatic conclusions. We have less control over these events than usual.

2. Timing of Eclipses

Eclipses repeat in the same sign every 19 years. Think about what happened 19 years ago – the same themes might arise. There are always two eclipses, occurring a couple of weeks apart. Eclipses can be felt even a month or a few weeks before and after the actual day of the eclipse.

3. Nature of Eclipses

The nature of eclipses is unpredictable. Great energies are at work, and they may bring new things, bring old things to light in surprising ways, or the final outcome of situations may not become clear for half a year or even a year later. It’s typical for eclipses to bring situations where we must act immediately. We have less control over our lives than usual. They remind us to be grateful and humble for the gift of human life.

4. Time feels distorted

During the time between eclipses, time seems to bend, twist, and distort. Our memories may lapse, and events and things might feel closer or farther away than we recall. The laws of nature seem distorted, and things that were once impossible suddenly feel achievable. Sensitive people may experience this time as restless, slightly uncomfortable, and surreal. Animals might also sense these energies and behave unusually.

5. The Veil between the Living and Dead is Thin

The veil between the living and the dead is especially thin now. We are reminded of our mortality and that the world isn’t just what we see concretely, but that the spiritual inner and outer world also exists. The time between eclipses is particularly busy on the other side – they might visit or give signs to remind us of their existence. All medium work is especially powerful at this time.

6. A Good Time for Spiritual Work, but not for Manifestation

Eclipse time is good for quiet reflection, rest, and all spiritual work, but only if thoughts are kept pure from anger, jealousy, and other negative emotions. Eclipses are not an ideal time for manifestation due to their unpredictability.

7. A Good Time to Let Go of Things

If things have been stuck, eclipse time will likely unlock things left in the dark in a dramatic way, bringing full clarity. Eclipses are nature’s own spiritual spring cleaning! (This is also an excellent time for a literal deep cleaning of your home – it affects us in a cleansing way both spiritually and physically). Eclipses are a particularly good time to let go of things, relationships, and situations that no longer serve us. But again, pure motives are important. It’s especially crucial to keep the ego in check now – any impulsive and especially selfish decisions made during this time may come back to us later. Some of us may also unwillingly lose people, pets, or things during this time. They may find comfort in knowing that eclipses are so fateful, that this loss was indeed written in the stars already long time ago.

Namaste,

Ursula
