Relief Lies Ahead, but Not Yet Solutions

Updated: May 15

The pace slows by the middle of the month. The end of May is filled with hope.

In many ways, we are still living in the aftermath of a dramatic April, when our Aries sector witnessed all kinds of upheaval. Many people experienced a sudden clarification of circumstances — not necessarily in a pleasant way, but at least there is now a clearer understanding of what the situation truly is. Real events and facts can no longer be denied.

At the same time, actual solutions remain difficult to envision. We are living through an era — and especially a year — unlike anything anyone has experienced before. We are still rather like Alice in Wonderland, having stepped into a world where so much is unfamiliar, and even the old no longer looks the way it once did. Reality itself remains difficult to grasp, and although we are learning about it rapidly every day, navigating this new world wisely is still extremely challenging.

For that reason, the beginning of May remains a confusing period. The New Moon in Taurus on May 16 falls very close to the fixed star Algol, which carries an intensely charged reputation. At its very best, Algol protects the person it favors against all odds — even to the point of miracles. At its worst, however, Algol drags the overly arrogant down from their throne, symbolically “cutting off their head,” according to myth. Algol therefore reminds us that exercising great power brings great responsibility and consequences. At the same time, this is an exceptionally fertile New Moon, and if one manages to gain Algol’s blessing for an undertaking begun beneath this sky, it is likely to succeed beyond expectations. But this requires skill and absolute honesty, especially with oneself.

Immediately after this New Moon, Mercury enters Gemini on May 17 and meets Uranus for the first time. This is a significant event for Mercury, which rules Gemini and will now act as Uranus’s host for the next seven years — for the first time in more than eighty years. At its best, this is an inspiring and innovative combination. Everything related to communication, travel, and commerce will change in unprecedented ways over the next seven years. On the other hand, Uranus in Gemini has often symbolized increasing disagreements, fragmentation, the rapid spread of conflict, and ultimately war — especially in the United States.

Some kind of technical surprises, and disruptions connected to communication in general, are likely between May 16–22. Travel and/or online services may experience interruptions and disruptions when Uranus meets its host Mercury.

Meanwhile, Mars enters Taurus on May 19, and the pace slows considerably — at least compared to April. This should help us catch our breath and regain some perspective.

Once we make it through May 25–26, when Mars squares Pluto, things begin to feel noticeably easier. This day — and even the preceding week, since Mars often acts ahead of schedule — reactivates something that already occurred around May 5–6, when Mercury squared Pluto. Mercury introduced the issue, and now Mars stirs it back into motion. Venus also squares Saturn on May 28, which may bring conflicts in matters of money or love, but after that, the Goddess of Love is finally free to celebrate together with Jupiter in the sign of Cancer; family celebrations are truly in order.

So, from roughly May 28 onward, and through nearly all of June, the atmosphere looks like the best period of the entire year — a breathing space during which we may even find reason to celebrate. The Full Moon in Sagittarius on May 31 also looks favorable, as does June as a whole. This brief period should be used wisely, because July and August once again appear highly intense.
