New Moon in Scorpio
The time of Scorpio reminds us of our own mortality, as nature around us temporarily "dies." This is why many cultures have dedicated this time to ancestors and the deceased for thousands of years.
On Friday, November 1, 2024, at 8:46 AM EST, the New Moon in Scorpio is heavily influenced by the opposition of Mars (in Cancer) and Pluto (in Capricorn), peaking on Sunday, November 3. This will be the final Mars-Pluto opposition in these signs, a configuration that won’t recur in our lifetimes, taking place at 29 degrees, a particularly intense degree before a planet shifts signs. This makes for an extremely challenging setup, felt not only in individual lives but also in society at large.
Personal and family needs (Cancer) are now in opposition to the demands of society or community (Capricorn). This moment also brings forth deep questions echoing from our ancestors, aligning with the commemoration of those who have passed.
As a people and as individuals, it feels as if we are asking: What constitutes a family, a group, a tribe, and ultimately a nation—and what is my duty as part of it? Cancer is a sign deeply loving and defensive of its tribe, yet wary of outsiders. But with Pluto in Capricorn for the past 16 years, we have seen that old attitudes and institutions must either perish or transform if we are to move forward.
Pluto's upcoming shift to Aquarius will no longer tolerate narrow-mindedness; it demands openness and personal sacrifice for the community's good. It calls for this from all, as humanity’s future relies on our responsibility and understanding of community. With Pluto’s influence, there is also the risk of overstepping boundaries—either through excessive societal intervention or total neglect of communal care—creating a balancing act we will face for the next 20 years.
The Mars-Pluto conflict continues, easing slightly towards the end of the month, yet due to Mars' retrograde, similar situations will recur twice more, on January 3 and April 27, 2025. This time, the opposition will occur in different signs, with Mars in Leo and Pluto in Aquarius—the conflict will shift from a defensive to an offensive stance, yet Pluto will remain strong, now seeing farther into the future in Aquarius.
Meanwhile, Mars, Neptune, and Mercury, all in water signs, form a grand water trine, signaling a highly emotional weekend. There may be increased risks of water-related damage, rain, or snow.
Venus and Jupiter, however, meet in opposition on Sunday afternoon, lightening the mood considerably. Despite serious topics, a renewed enthusiasm and hope for the future spark many engaging conversations.
Below is a brief overview of how the Scorpio New Moon and Mars/Pluto opposition will impact each sign:
ARIES – Home vs. career or public life feels like a tug-of-war; take care of yourself to manage both.
TAURUS – Relationships and communication feel challenging. Consider rephrasing, or perhaps saying nothing at all.
GEMINI – Your finances and self-worth face such significant challenges, that may prompt you to defend them almost aggressively.
CANCER – A search for identity; personal needs vs. the obligations set by others. Reflect on what truly matters to you.
LEO – Hidden issues come to light; possibly a family or relationship crisis.
VIRGO – Friends and networks bring both pleasant and unpleasant surprises; you may need to choose a healthier community.
LIBRA – Career changes: endings and new beginnings, this time in a way that aligns with your true self.
SCORPIO – Transformations in life philosophy, perhaps through travel, lead to major realizations and decisions.
SAGITTARIUS – Finances and debt are once again at the forefront; keep a cool head, and you'll pull through.
CAPRICORN – An intense relationship either draws you in or nears its final breath.
AQUARIUS – Daily routines start feeling like a chore. Focus on maintaining mental and physical well-being.
PISCES – Time to question the sources and places that bring you joy.

On November 19, 2024, Pluto permanently leaves Capricorn and moves into Aquarius, where it will remain for an astounding 20 years.
Pluto has been in Capricorn for 16 years, since 2008, and will not return there again in our lifetimes. Thanks to Pluto, we have evolved from caterpillar to butterfly.
Pluto is bringing about a final, permanent transformation, sealing it with its influence. Pluto primarily symbolizes power, or the lack thereof, both in society and personal lives. Unlike Saturn, which brings personal lessons and even rewards, Pluto is more impersonal, urging us to simply accept the changes it imposes.
Horoscopes for each sign specifically related to Pluto will be in my next blog.
Namaste,
Ursula
