Venus Fights Back

Writer's picture: Ursula @LunardakiniUrsula @Lunardakini

Jupiter turns direct and brings back luck and Venus fights back.

I mentioned in my 2025 astrology blog that this year and the next will be among the most significant years for humanity. All the planets are changing signs—something that hasn’t happened in recent memory. I stated that from winter to the end of May, we will be introduced to a completely new world and receive glimpses of the future.

Only in the fall will the pace slow down slightly when several planets retrograde back into previous signs before finally moving forward again into new signs for years to come in 2026.

January was as dramatic as promised

January 2025 did not disappoint in this regard—it ushered us into a new era with remarkable speed and drama. The new moon in Aquarius on January 29, 2025, was the first one after Pluto moved into Aquarius for the next 20 years. Pluto had already briefly entered Aquarius a couple of times, preparing us for the transition. However, there is still a sense of shock in the air—Pluto’s presence in Aquarius during the new moon has finally become tangible and real for many.

Aquarius represents renewal and revolutionary ideas, but it also stands for the common good and the ordinary people. Pluto, on the other hand, symbolizes power, strength, and plutocrats—particularly in Aquarius, it represents the tech plutocrats who have been highly visible, especially in the United States. Pluto often magnifies small things into major issues and reduces big matters into seemingly insignificant details. Because of this, Pluto-driven small technological changes may initially go unnoticed, especially in public discourse, or may seem like minor details—only to later reveal themselves as major developments.

We also saw glimpses of technological breakthroughs from unexpected sources, causing fluctuations in stock markets. This coincided with Uranus turning direct on January 31 after months of retrograde motion. Typically, Uranus brings surprising news and events—some of them unpleasant, such as the major aviation accidents that have appeared in the news.

Jupiter brings relief and a change of fortune

The good news is that Jupiter will also turn direct on February 4, 2025, and will not retrograde again until it enters Cancer in July. This signifies that matters that have been stuck since last fall and have seemed overwhelmingly unlucky will finally start moving forward. Especially Virgos, Geminis, Sagittarians, and Pisceans may have experienced frustrating setbacks since last fall, but now things will begin to open up—perhaps even quite rapidly. Jupiter always strives to help and improve situations, but for the past four months, it has been unable to function as desired. Just when luck seemed to have completely vanished, Jupiter brings a glimmer of hope back.

Venus demands respect

On the same day that Jupiter turns direct, February 4, Venus moves into Aries until March 27. Venus naturally seeks to bring things together, but Mars, which rules Aries, prefers to separate and conquer. This creates a somewhat challenging and fiery, yet highly passionate combination. People with Venus in Aries in their birth charts tend to be intense, demanding, and rebellious in relationships. In society, the periods when Venus is in Aries can manifest as heightened attention to women’s rights or other human rights issues—even in an aggressive manner. Venus doesn’t play games in Aries—it demands respect.

A Journey to the Underworld with Venus

Relationships of all kinds will be under scrutiny, especially when Venus goes retrograde in Aries on March 1. During retrograde, Venus behaves even more rebelliously than usual in Aries. However, these feelings will begin to surface as early as mid-February. This could involve questioning an existing romantic or friendship relationship or experiencing emotional distance. It might also relate to an activity or hobby that once brought joy but now makes us wonder if we still enjoy it. Sometimes, Venus teaches us what we truly want by showing us what we no longer desire. This situation may be temporary, returning to “normal” when Venus turns direct again in Pisces on April 13.

In ancient mythology, Venus was said to travel to the underworld during its retrograde phase. After this, we are never quite the same as before—we undergo deep self-exploration. Venus teaches us a lot about ourselves, relationships, and what we truly enjoy.

Venus retrogrades in the same sign every eight years, often bringing similar themes or events. Reflect on what happened in your life when Venus last retrograded in Aries in 2017, 2009, and 2001.

A surprising full moon in Leo

The full moon in Leo on February 12, 2025, forms a square with Uranus, bringing surprises related to technology, finance, and money. Since Mercury and Uranus are both still moving direct at this time, the news should be mostly positive. This could also involve power struggles between different tech companies or issues related to citizens' rights and privacy emerging due to competition between tech corporations.

Mars in Cancer: Home, family, and tribe as battlegrounds

Mars turns direct on February 23, but before that, it slows down and nearly stops for over three weeks at 17 degrees, from February 11 to March 9. This period will feel particularly intense for Cancers, Capricorns, Aries, and Libras. Matters related to home and family will be turbulent but should begin to resolve slowly yet steadily. The downside may manifest as excessive masculine energy at home or in society, heightened tribalism, and extreme defensiveness of one’s home or group. On a personal level, caution is advised to avoid accidents. Venus’s retrograde happening at the same time may be a reaction to Mars’s aggression—Venus in Aries does not back down from a fight but retaliates in kind. There won’t be much room for compromise—on the contrary.

New Moon in Pisces

Mars turns direct in Cancer on February 23, just before the new moon in Pisces on February 28, 2025. This new moon feels more like a full moon due to its emotional intensity. Saturn, Neptune, the North Node, and Mercury in Pisces indicate a highly complex and emotionally stirring situation that is bigger than it first appears. Much is happening beneath the surface. Whatever is introduced to us during this new moon will resurface at the end of March and early April when Mercury retrogrades.

And that’s not all—March and April will be the most dramatic and transformative months of the year, bringing solar and lunar eclipses and a Mercury retrograde. It would be wise to keep schedules as open as possible during these months to allow time to process events and respond to rapidly changing, confusing situations where distinguishing truth from illusion is difficult. This applies both personally and societally.

Namaste,

Ursula Lunardakini
