Spiritualized - for Real: Saturn in Pisces

Saturn ingresses into Pisces on March 7, 2023 for the next 3 years.

Saturn in Pisces

In general, Saturn in Pisces symbolizes a much easier time than Saturn in Aries (coming up in the summer of 2025 and starting for good in February 2026), so the next 2-3 years provide a bit of a breather before a more challenging time again in a few years.

Saturn is moving out of his own home sign Aquarius and ingresses into the watery, mystical, dissolving, spiritual, emotional sign of Pisces, the home sign of Jupiter. Saturn's role is to limit, challenge and be realistic, but he is now moving into Jupiter ruled sign, and Jupiter's role is to expand, revitalize and be generous and optimistic.

On the day of the Virgo full moon March 7, 2023, Saturn ingresses into Pisces (from March 7, 2023 to Feb 14, 2026), Jupiter will host Saturn's stay in Pisces for the next 3 years. The full moon may bring some initially good sounding surprises - but please hold on to your hat until the Saturn in Pisces energy settles a little bit and when we really understand what is what.

We will see the softening of Saturn's harsh stance, compared to the past 5 years, when he has been in his own sign and been able to rule as he wants; limiting and testing us. Saturn will now answer to Jupiter, who has an opposite mission; to expand and dissolve.

These two great planets symbolize the human story, which is a constant movement of contraction and expansion. We like to think that human development is a straight, linear arrow that keeps pointing upwards towards something higher, bigger and better. But what we think of progress is actually more like a spiral. We will face ignorance (wars) and things like natural disasters on a regular basis - it is a part of human existence. Saturn will never disappear. Many a times we have taken one step forward and two steps back both as individuals and as humanity. All we can hope is some incremental improvement each time we come to face to face to similar challenges. Contraction and expansion is not a clear path, but messy, at best. It is like giving birth.

Your hand opens and closes and opens and closes. If it were always a fist or always stretched open, you would be paralyzed. Your deepest presence is in every small contracting and expanding. The two as beautifully balanced and coordinated as bird wings.” -Jalaluddin Rumi (1207-1273)

Indeed, many will experience confusion of convictions and direction, or double down and become even more fanatical. Our immediate reaction to words like contraction and limit is usually a negative one. We will much rather run towards expansiveness and revitalization. But think of societies and groups that have kept themselves isolated from the rest of the world. While extreme isolation can definitely create its own problems, it can also provide protection and preservation. Nothing destroys cultures faster and with more devastating consequences than introducing outside influences. Ideas are dispersed, dissolved and people become disoriented. This is the power of Pisces, and it is surprisingly effective, despite its gentle, watery appearance. Nothing will break a solid rock - but years of constantly flowing water that will shape it.

On the other hand, perhaps some harmful concepts that have lasted for hundreds of years must finally change. So neither restriction or expansion in itself is a good or a bad thing.

Spiritual Crises Births Creativity

We will see spirituality becoming a lot more serious, but also a lot more creative in a very real way. The last time Saturn was in Pisces was in 1994-1996, but the Jupiter cycle was in a very different place at that time. The years 1964-1966 were more similar our current situation (due to the similar Jupiter cycle) - both still very a creative and interesting time overall.

Saturn in Pisces heralds people both craving for more real spirituality, but also sobering up from illusions at the same time. The internet is already 30 years old and we are all somewhat wiser about it, and have reached a point where we no longer trust every story that is written online. There is already a sense that the masses have reached a saturation point in terms of made up narratives. Everybody is a bit more aware of false messages and stories. People have also picked the stories they believe, chosen their like-minded group, and are sticking to it - this is the result of Saturn's transit in Aquarius. It is becoming evident that nobody changes their mind about anything. But interestingly, this can now also have the opposite effect of fanaticism actually dissolving - Saturn in Pisces. (Because usually we eventually get tired only preaching to the converted.)

Spiritual Thirst for Real Answers

After the astonishing resurgence of the new age movements, astrology and all things spiritual for the past 12 or so years (due to Neptune's stay in Pisces), we will now see the beginning of a more "real", or practical implementations of spirituality. This type of spirituality is, however a lot more about inner searching, less outwardly. We will be questioning or searching our own spiritual values, and looking for real answers. Saturn will put our convictions to the test.

While the interest in spirituality in all its forms will keep expanding, Saturn's influence will keep it real. Spiritual values that cannot stand the test of time (Saturn rules time), will not hold. Spiritual leaders who cannot deliver, or who are abusing their power, will be held accountable. People will be seeking true answers, not the kind that can be found on social media. Superficiality and simply making things look and sound good will not be enough anymore - actual substance is king.

But it is also possible that with Pluto's simultaneous entrance into Aquarius, more censorship will be placed on faith based beliefs and generally the flow of information will be restricted or where or how we will receive information may eventually change dramatically.

Saturn in Pisces can definitely also mean extreme spiritual philosophies and small fringe groups that become even more fanatical than before. Big weather events are also something to watch out for.

On a positive note, we will be feeling a lot more free, a bit softer and more flexible. The question becomes, what will we do with this newfound freedom? It is not that we are completely free by any means, it's just that the extreme harshness of Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn is finally truly ending. Whew!

Everything will feel slightly lighter, or at least quite different than before. And as mentioned before, Pluto will gradually take its turn in Aquarius for the next 20 years - heralding a new era for mankind that will feel completely new and different. More on that in my upcoming Pluto in Aquarius post.

I will go through Saturn in Pisces for each sign in my next blog.

Namaste,
