Wish Upon the Moon

New Moon in Aries on April 11, 2021.

New Moon wishes are as old as time. But what does a New Moon wish really mean? It means that it is a good time to check where our energy is going, and focus our attention. This new moon took place 10:30pm EST on April 11 in Aries.

The general rule to make the most potent New Moon wishes is about 8 hours after the new moon has taken place, up to 48 hours after. While the waning, dark moon is an excellent time to let go and reflect, it is not considered auspicious to make a wish during it, because the Moon is losing its lunar light and thus, its "vitality". Therefore, it is generally good to wait a day after the new moon (April 12-14), especially if you don't know the exact time of the new moon in your location.

In my previous post I talked about the journey of Venus in detail. She squared Pluto and is therefore strongly part of this new moon chart. Meaning, that we are deep in the middle of redefining our relationships and value systems. There is much to clarify, much to leave behind and time to take steps forward to the future that is only to barely beginning to emerge.

The full moon in Scorpio on April 26 promises to be an unpredictably wild one, with both Uranus and Saturn at play. It is advisable to organize your priorities this week, when we still have plenty of planetary backup.

Write It Down

In the age of virtual keyboards, we have forgotten the power of a pen and paper. Something magical happens when we pick up an object and make our mark. These virtual words you are currently reading, will eventually disappear into the digital black hole, but words on written on paper can last for generations.

There is a reason many people keep a diary. First, there is the subject: you, and the object: the pen. You have now taken the first step of bringing an abstract idea into the material world. Second, there is the act of writing - Hermes' gift to mankind. Humans have the ability to create symbols of our thoughts - how truly magical! And finally, we have the witness: paper. There is a reason contracts are written down. To make it so, is to write it down. So it will be.

What to Wish for?

What to wish for, is the million dollar question. We all know the old saying, be careful what you wish for, because you may just get it. Indeed. What we ask for, reflects where we are on our spiritual journey.

The New Moon exercise is an excellent thing to do whether you "believe" in making wishes or not. Why? Because surprisingly many of us don't know what we want. Or, as we reflect on this question, we may no longer want what used to feel so important to us. We may realize that our priorities have changed.

And wow, have our priorities ever changed compared to the beginning of 2020! This is definitely the time to charge ahead and make those changes that have been a long time coming. The levee will break in the upcoming two weeks, and by the full moon on April 26, much will be revealed.

Aries New Moon is the perfect time to make a fresh start and make yourself a priority. Not only is healthy self care a good thing, it is perfectly fine to wish things that put even a temporary smile on your face! It is all part of our journey here, towards spiritual discovery.

What Not to Wish for?

It is not a good idea to wish for other people to change. "I would be happy, if only he/she did / did not ....(DON'T insert a wish here)". Not only will it not work, but you are inadvertently creating more obstacles for yourself. You are not allowing the other person to discover their own path. Also, by only staring at another, you are not looking at yourself. The only thing we can truly change is our own perception. But you already knew that. Still, we don't really believe it. What would the relationship look like if the other person always behaved exactly as you wished? Would the relationship feel real, if you always got your wish? What if friction and conflict was meant to show you things, and to shape you, the other person, and the relationship itself....?

Needless to say, to wish for bad things for others, no matter how justified your cause, is not a good idea. You may even get your wish. But such is the law of cause and effect, that there is always a price to pay, soon enough. Smarter play is to wish your adversary so many good things that they simply won't have to continue on the same road. This way, you are wishing only good things and not have to deal with karmic payback.

Funny enough, it is much easier for us to list things that we don't want, rather than what we do want. But we are always better off turning any negative wish around. What is the best case scenario? Focus on visualizing that instead. Why not fixate on at the sunny side of the street, during these trying times when there is enough anxiety as is? Adjust that lens, and make the glass half full, rather than half empty.

Wishing Upon the Aries New Moon,

Ursula
